Making a Difference with Every Can: Hunter’s Black Belt Community Project at the Westchester Food Pantry
At True Balance Karate, every black belt candidate takes on a community service project as part of their journey—not just to prove their skills, but to show the strength of their character. Hunter took this challenge to heart, dedicating his project to helping those in need through the Westchester Food Pantry.
Giving Back to the Community
Hunter chose the Westchester Food Pantry because he wanted to support families in his own neighborhood who were struggling with food insecurity. “I wanted to help people in my community who didn’t have enough food,” he said. “It seemed like a good way to make a real difference.”
He volunteered his time sorting food, bagging groceries, and even brought along some friends to lend a hand. One of his roles included assisting the Wet Nose Food Pantry, where he handed out pet food and supplies to families with dogs or cats—ensuring the entire household was cared for. He also helped seniors and those with limited mobility load groceries into their cars.
Through this experience, Hunter not only saw the impact of food insecurity firsthand, but also learned the importance of teamwork and the value of organized community action. “It felt really good to be part of something that helped others,” he reflected.
About the Westchester Food Pantry
